A robust relay between batteries connected in parallel, the Cyrix-CT (formerly Cyrix-i), a top-of-the-range splitter coupler from Victron Energy, lets you recharge a 12V auxiliary battery by recovering the energy produced by the engine battery. To be connected to a non-intelligent alternator rated at less than 150 A. It automatically charges your secondary battery as soon as you start your vehicle's engine.

And if you're worried about charging your secondary battery on the engine battery, this separator coupler will put your mind at rest: it keeps the two coupled until the input voltage drops below 12.8V. Below this voltage, recharging of the auxiliary battery is stopped, thus protecting the battery.
