Why insulate a van with sprayed cork ?
Suitable for insulating converted vans, Soliege sprayed cork coating ensures that thermal bridges are broken thanks to a thin layer of insulation in the smallest nooks and crannies.
As well as being a thermal insulator, Soliege natural sprayed cork acts as a vapour barrier. The sheet metal on your van is a very good conductor of heat, encouraging the formation of water vapour, which over time can lead to rust spots on the body. Spray cork protects the sheet metal by preventing vapour from settling on it.
Soliege product benefits :
- Natural and healthy: biocide-free, fungicide-free, VOC-free
- Zero condensation: eliminates thermal bridges
- Acoustic comfort: reduction of up to 19 dB
- High-performance thermal insulation (lambda 0.039 W/m.K)
- Moisture regulator: natural vapour barrier effect
- Easy to apply with a plastering gun
- Zone Verte EXCELL+ certified product
Spray cork protects the sheet metal from condensation, considerably reducing the risk of rust. It also absorbs vibrations and minimises resonance in the passenger compartment.
Tip Heode once the interior of your vehicle is completely clean (Using the armaflex cleaner), place Armacomfort Barrier B 2mm soundproofing in first position, followed by Liège Projeté natural plaster thermal insulation, and finally aF Armaflex 19mm insulation or biofib Trio, Isovégétal Flex or even MÉTISSE RT insulation panels.

At what temperature should spray cork be applied in a van ?
You can't spray cork onto the sheet metal parts of your van at any temperature. That's why it's essential to have all the equipment you need to apply it. And it's advisable to follow a strict procedure to ensure the success of your sprayed cork insulation.
To apply your thermal insulating cork coating, the team Heode recommends that you place your vehicle in a sheltered area. This will allow you to leave the doors open for optimum drying !
If you have to spray your cork coating outside, prefer dry weather with a temperature of over 15° to a maximum of 35°.

How many bags of spray cork do you need to insulate your van ?
Heode gives you a few tips to help you order the right number of 6Kg bags of SOLIEGE natural cork coating to insulate your van !
6 kg of sprayed cork + 6 L of water = 12 kg of homogeneous paste to cover approximately 10m²
- Know the size of your vehicle.
- Know the dimensions (L x W x H) of the rear area (side walls, ceiling, floor, hinged doors or tailgate) of your vehicle.
- Have an idea of the number of layers and therefore thicknesses of sprayed cork you want (a layer of sprayed cork is equivalent to an average thickness of 1mm).
The data presented in the tables below includes bag estimates in relation to the average surface area in m² present in the body of a Renault Trafic 3 since 2015 depending on its size.
For a vehicle of size L1H1 Renault Trafic 3 approximately 20m² :
Number of layers | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 |
---|---|---|---|---|
Number of 6kg bags | 2 bags | 4 bags | 6 bags | 8 bags |
For a vehicle of size L2H1 Renault Trafic 3 approximately 23m² :
Number of layers | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 |
---|---|---|---|---|
Number of 6kg bags | 3 bags | 5 bags | 7 bags | 10 bags |
Our expert advice Heode for sprayed cork
- Apply in a sheltered area with the doors open
- Prepare all materials in advance to ensure smooth operation
- Work in pairs if possible: one mixes, one projects
- The product can be stored for a few days in a sealed bucket with plastic film
- Compatible with : Armacomfort Barrier B 2mm, , Armaflex AF, , Biofib Trio 45mm, , Isovégétal Flex 45mm, , MÉTISSE RT 20kg/m3 insulation - 45mm recycled cotton insulation panel
An example of a high-performance combination, particularly on the sides of your van:
1. Armacomfort 2 mm for thermal and acoustic insulation
2. Soliege projected cork (1 to 3 coats) for thermal insulation and breaking thermal bridges
3. Armaflex AF 19mm self-adhesive or Biofib Trio / Isovégétal Flex / MÉTISSE RT insulation
If you are installing Biofib Trio, Isovégétal Flex or Isolant MÉTISSE RT panels, it is essential that you apply vapour brake for optimum, all-round protection. The vapour barrier must be held in place by double-sided adhesive to be fixed directly to the sheet metal.
FAQ about Soliege spray cork
Can sprayed cork be coloured ?
Yes, you can personalise the final appearance of the sprayed cork by adding a pigment to the mixture (cork + water). Heode offers natural pigments (white, anthracite) in pots or sachets. We recommend adding the pigment only to the last coat. Use only one pigment at a time for an even finish. The lighter the pigment, the larger the dose to be added.
Is spray cork certified ?
Yes, Soliege cork is certified by the Zone Verte EXCELL® / EXCELL+® label, guaranteeing a very high level of quality. This certification guarantees that the product does not emit harmful chemical compounds and respects the living comfort of users.
Can I combine spray cork with other insulation materials ?
Absolutely. Spray cork can be used in conjunction with other thermal or acoustic insulation materials. At Heode, we often recommend combining it with :
- armacomfort Barrier B 2mm (must be laid before applying sprayed cork),
- self-adhesive Armaflex AF 19mm (must be laid over the completely dry sprayed cork) or panels of Biofib Trio; Isovégétal Flex; Isolant MÉTISSE RT (must be laid on top of completely dry sprayed cork).
How long does it take to apply spray cork in a van ?
Spray cork can be applied in half a day if the equipment is ready. Allow between 24 and 48 hours for each coat to dry. For insulation in 2 or 3 layers, allow between 2 and 4 days depending on weather conditions.
Is spray cork suitable for all van surfaces ?
Yes, it can be applied to the sides, ceiling, floor, hinged doors or tailgate. Thanks to its paste-like texture, it adheres to complex shapes and hard-to-reach nooks and crannies. It is particularly recommended for metal areas prone to condensation.
Can sprayed cork be left exposed ?
Yes! Once dry, it gives a natural, textured finish that is much appreciated. You can choose to sand it for a smoother finish, or add a pigment to colour it. Some travellers leave it visible on the side walls or rear hinged doors.
Is spray cork environmentally friendly ?
Absolutely. It's a natural product, with no solvents, VOCs or chemical additives. It comes from French forests and is manufactured locally. It is EXCELL+ certified for its purity and safety.
