Man cleaning a van with a mask and Armacell Cleaner

Step 2: Insulate the walls and ceiling

Unroll the 19 mm Armaflex ChezMoi over the walls and ceiling, starting from the bottom and peeling off the protective film as you go.

Smooth each section by hand to expel the air, then reinforce the ceiling with mechanical fixings every 500 mm.

Step 1: Prepare the surfaces

Degrease the sheet metal with Cleaner Armaflex, from top to bottom, before any fitting. A perfectly clean and dry surface is essential: the slightest trace of grease or dust will prevent the adhesive from holding over time.

Fit your battens and mechanical fixings before the insulation, so as not to crush it once in place.

Step 3: Treat reinforcements and wheel arches

The 10 mm Armaflex ChezMoi, thinner and more flexible, slides into the uprights, side rails and wheel arches that the 19 mm cannot conform to.

Cut it with a fresh blade and a 5 mm margin to compensate for irregularities in the sheet metal.

Step 4: Fill the doors with flakes

Fit the Proclima Intello vapour barrier using the adhesive tape, making sure to leave a large enough opening. Inject the Armaflex flakes, and close the vapour barrier as you fill.

Tamp down lightly to avoid air pockets, but without compressing the material. Once all the nooks and crannies of the door are filled, finish sealing the vapour barrier with the adhesive tape to block water vapour.

Step 5: Seal the joints

Every joint between two lengths of Armaflex ChezMoi, every corner and every cut must be sealed with Tape Armaflex ChezMoi. A single exposed point is enough to create a cold bridge where condensation settles, with a risk of corrosion on the sheet metal.

Be generous — now is not the time to hold back!

Step 6: Fit the floor

Apply high-performance spray adhesive to the floor sheet metal, then unroll the 4 mm cork over it. Thin and flexible, it takes up almost no floor-to-ceiling height while cutting out the cold rising from the ground.

Once fitted, your van is fully insulated — you can move on to the next step of your build!

A real time saving on the most tedious areas of your L2H1

Armaflex ChezMoi insulates your L2H1 van from floor to ceiling, including the walls and reinforcements.

Yet, the real time saving comes with the doors: rather than a panel to cut to size, Armaflex flakes are poured directly in and fill every nook without any cutting. Cork completes the set on the floor. Quantities already calibrated for this size, adhesives and accessories included.

Compatible with L2H1 vans on the market (Renault Trafic, Peugeot Expert, Citroën Jumpy, Ford Transit Custom, Volkswagen Transporter and equivalents), this kit covers walls, ceiling, doors, wheel arches and floor.

  • Quantities calibrated for an L2H1: no more guesswork or unnecessary offcuts.
  • A real time saving on the doors: no custom cutting, the flakes are poured and compacted.
  • Armaflex ChezMoi, designed for the van: unlike the older AF, which was designed for construction.
  • Insulation that covers everything: walls, ceiling, doors, wheel arches and floor.
  • No cutting on difficult areas: the flakes are poured and compacted, without millimetre-precise adjustments.

Materials chosen for their role in insulation

Armaflex ChezMoi — the insulation designed for the van

Successor to the Armaflex AF, the ChezMoi uses the same closed-cell technology, in a formulation designed from the outset for van fitting rather than construction. Its integrated vapour barrier means there is no need to add a separate vapour control layer to the walls and ceiling.

  • Role in the kit: walls, ceiling, reinforcements, wheel arches
  • Thickness / packaging: 19 mm (6 m² roll) and 10 mm (10 m² roll)
  • Thermal conductivity (λ): 0.035 W/(m·K)
  • Integrated vapour barrier: closed cells, no separate vapour control layer needed
  • Antimicrobial treatment: Microban®, integrated into the material
  • Service temperature: -50 °C to +85 °C
  • VOC emissions: A+ rating (ISO 16 000)
  • Manufacturer's warranty: 10 years
  • Origin / manufacture: Europe, Armacell technology

Armaflex flakes — the loose-fill insulation for tricky nooks

Armaflex flakes offer the same insulating properties as roll Armaflex, in a form that can be poured and conforms to any cavity — a solution for doors and areas that cut panels would be far more complex to cover!

  • Role in the kit: doors
  • Packaging: 5 kg bag
  • Nature: same material as roll Armaflex, in granule form
  • Installation method: poured and lightly compacted into the cavity

Cork — the natural floor insulation

Naturally rot-proof and moisture-resistant, cork insulates the floor without adding unnecessary thickness. Its lightness and flexibility make it a simple solution to install with spray adhesive, directly onto the metal sheet.

  • Role in the kit: floor
  • Thickness / packaging: 4 mm (4 m² roll)
  • Moisture resistance: rot-proof, naturally water-resistant
  • Origin / manufacture: natural material
