34 m² of Armaflex ChezMoi, calculated to insulate your Fiat Ducato L2H2

This kit brings together all the Armaflex ChezMoi you need to insulate a Fiat Ducato L2H2 campervan conversion: 1 roll of 10 mm insulation, 4 rolls of 19 mm insulation, 4 rolls of Tape and 1 Cleaner. The icing on the cake? We’ll include a pair of gloves and a utility knife for free! Quantities are calculated for the Ducato L2H2: order everything at once, without having to estimate the area or worry about getting the quantities wrong.

Armaflex ChezMoi is a closed-cell elastomeric foam made in Europe using Armacell technology. Its self-adhesive side sticks directly to cleaned metalwork, with no additional glue needed. The closed cells also act as a vapour barrier (μ> 7 000): there’s no need to fit a separate vapour control layer, and there’s less condensation on the metalwork.

With a thermal conductivity of 0.035 W/(m·K) and an operating range of −50 °C to +85 °C, it insulates against both cold and heat, whether you turn your Ducato into a campervan, a work van or a motorhome. Its A+ air quality rating (ISO 16000, VOC-free) and Microban® antimicrobial treatment integrated into the material matter in a space where you sleep. Its reaction to fire meets the FMVSS automotive standard, and the manufacturer guarantees the material for 10 years.

The kit has a simple layout: 10 mm insulation for the floor and structural supports, 19 mm for the walls and ceiling, Tape to seal the joins, and Cleaner to prepare the metalwork before fitting.

Armaflex ChezMoi 19 mm: insulate the walls and ceiling

The 19 mm insulation is the standard thickness for large areas. It provides the most insulation where space allows: the Ducato’s side walls, doors and ceiling. The kit contains 4 rolls, covering 24 m².

  • Thickness: 19 mm
  • Pack size: 6 m² roll (6 m × 1 m)
  • Thermal conductivity: λ = 0.035 W/(m·K) at 0 °C
  • Vapour barrier: integrated, μ> 7 000
  • Operating temperature: −50 °C to +85 °C
  • Reaction to fire: FMVSS automotive standard
  • Air quality: A+ rating (ISO 16000), VOC-free
  • Antimicrobial treatment: Microban® integrated into the material
  • Warranty: 10 years (manufacturer)

Armaflex ChezMoi 10 mm: insulate the floor and structural supports

The 10 mm insulation fits where space is tight: the floor, deep reinforcements, wheel arches and structural supports. It insulates the metalwork while preserving headroom. The kit contains 1 roll, covering 10 m².

  • Thickness: 10 mm
  • Pack size: 10 m² roll (10 m × 1 m)
  • Thermal conductivity: λ = 0.035 W/(m·K) at 0 °C
  • Vapour barrier: integrated, μ> 7 000
  • Operating temperature: −50 °C to +85 °C
  • Reaction to fire: FMVSS automotive standard
  • Air quality: A+ rating (ISO 16000), VOC-free
  • Antimicrobial treatment: Microban® integrated into the material
  • Warranty: 10 years (manufacturer)

Tape, Cleaner, gloves and utility knife: preparation, cutting and sealing joins

Tape seals the joins between sheets to reduce thermal bridging, while Cleaner degreases the metalwork for good adhesion. The kit contains 4 rolls of Tape, providing 60 m of tape, and 1 Cleaner. A pair of gloves and a utility knife are included free for handling and cutting the insulation.

  • Tape: 15 m × 50 mm adhesive roll, 4 rolls in the kit
  • Cleaner: solvent-free cleaner, 1 L spray bottle, 1 in the kit
  • Gloves: 1 pair, included free with the kit
  • Utility knife: 1, included free with the kit

Compatibility: Fiat Ducato L2H2

The kit is sized for the load area of a Fiat Ducato L2H2 panel van (from 2006 onwards): 3,120 mm long, 1,870 mm wide and 1,932 mm high, with 1,422 mm between the wheel arches. These measurements are indicative: measure your vehicle before fitting, especially if it has already been converted.

Please note: The bulkhead separating the load area from the cab is not included in the kit’s coverage. The closed cells of Armaflex ChezMoi already act as a vapour barrier, so no separate vapour control layer is needed.

The Ducato L2H2 shares its bodywork with the Peugeot Boxer and Citroën Jumper: see the Peugeot Boxer L2H2 and Citroën Jumper L2H2 kits. Other Ducato sizes: L1H1, L1H2, L2H1, L3H2 and L3H3.

How do you install the Armaflex ChezMoi kit in a Fiat Ducato L2H2?

Armaflex ChezMoi is self-adhesive: it can be fitted without glue, using a few simple tools, and requires no special skills. Just follow the steps in order. Our blog article on fitting Armaflex explains each step in detail.

  1. Prepare the walls. Identify the areas to insulate. If you plan to fit wooden cladding, install the fixing battens first.
  2. Clean the metalwork. Spray on the Cleaner and wipe it off: the metal must be clean and degreased for the adhesive to stick.
  3. Mark out. Transfer the dimensions of each area onto the non-adhesive side of the insulation, starting with the floor and structural supports (10 mm), then the walls and ceiling (19 mm).
  4. Cut. Put on the gloves included free and cut the sheets to shape with the kit’s utility knife, or use an Armacell knife kit if you prefer. The foam cuts cleanly.
  5. Stick in place. Peel off the protective film as you go, pressing the sheet onto the metalwork from the centre outwards to remove trapped air.
  6. Seal the joins. Apply Tape to every join between two sheets to reduce thermal bridging.

Frequently asked questions about insulating a Fiat Ducato L2H2

How much insulation do you need for a Fiat Ducato L2H2?

The kit provides 34 m² of Armaflex ChezMoi: 10 m² of 10 mm insulation for the floor and structural supports, and 24 m² of 19 mm insulation for the walls and ceiling. Quantities are calculated for the Ducato L2H2, excluding the cab bulkhead.

Do I need DIY experience to fit this kit?

No. The insulation is self-adhesive and can be cut with the utility knife included free in the kit: clean, cut, stick, then seal the joins with Tape. Just follow the six steps in the installation section; the video shows you how.

Do I need to add glue?

No. The self-adhesive side of Armaflex ChezMoi sticks directly to the metalwork. Cleaner is only used to degrease it so the adhesive bonds properly.

10 mm or 19 mm: where should each go?

The 10 mm insulation goes on the floor and structural supports, where space is limited. The 19 mm insulation goes on the walls and ceiling, where there is room for a thicker layer. The kit is divided up accordingly.

Is this kit suitable for a Ducato-based motorhome?

It is designed for a Ducato L2H2 panel van being converted into a campervan or motorhome. For a coachbuilt or low-profile motorhome, the living area has different surfaces: measure them before deciding how much Armaflex you need.

Can you double the thickness for very cold weather?

Yes, you can layer two sheets in exposed areas if you travel in very cold conditions. You’ll need to add extra rolls of Armaflex ChezMoi 19 mm to the kit.

Armaflex ChezMoi or Armaflex AF: what’s the difference?

Armaflex ChezMoi succeeds Armaflex AF for vehicle conversions: the same self-adhesive closed-cell foam, with a reaction to fire meeting the FMVSS automotive standard. Our article compares the two ranges point by point.
