Comfort in summer and winter in your Fiat Ducato L3H2, thanks to 34 m² of Armaflex ChezMoi

Keeping warm in winter and limiting heat build-up in summer in a Fiat Ducato L3H2: that’s the job of Armaflex ChezMoi, which insulates the metalwork against both cold and heat. This kit brings together the quantities calculated for the Ducato L3H2: 1 roll of 10 mm, 4 rolls of 19 mm, 4 rolls of Tape and 1 bottle of Cleaner, with a pair of gloves and a utility knife included free.

Armaflex ChezMoi is an elastomeric foam made in Europe using Armacell technology. Its self-adhesive side sticks directly to cleaned metalwork, with no additional glue needed. The closed cells also act as a vapour barrier (μ> 7,000): no separate vapour control layer to install, and less condensation on the metalwork.

With a thermal conductivity of 0.035 W/(m·K) and an operating range of −50 °C to +85 °C, it insulates against both cold and heat, whether you turn your Ducato into a campervan, work van or motorhome. The A+ rating (ISO 16000, VOC-free) and Microban® antimicrobial treatment integrated into the material matter in a space where you sleep. Its reaction to fire meets the FMVSS automotive standard, and the manufacturer guarantees the material for 10 years.

The kit is straightforward to use: the 10 mm insulation goes on the floor and pillars, the 19 mm insulation on the walls and ceiling, Tape seals the joints, and Cleaner cleans the metalwork before installation.

Armaflex ChezMoi 19 mm: insulate the walls and ceiling

The 19 mm thickness is the standard choice for large areas. It provides the most insulation where space allows: the Ducato’s side walls, doors and ceiling. The kit contains 4 rolls, covering 24 m².

  • Thickness: 19 mm
  • Pack size: 6 m² roll (6 m × 1 m)
  • Thermal conductivity: λ = 0.035 W/(m·K) at 0 °C
  • Vapour barrier: integrated, μ> 7,000
  • Operating temperature: −50 °C to +85 °C
  • Reaction to fire: FMVSS automotive standard
  • Indoor air quality: A+ rating (ISO 16000), VOC-free
  • Antimicrobial treatment: Microban® integrated into the material
  • Warranty: 10 years (manufacturer)

Armaflex ChezMoi 10 mm: insulate the floor and pillars

  • Thickness: 10 mm
  • Pack size: 10 m² roll (10 m × 1 m)
  • Thermal conductivity: λ = 0.035 W/(m·K) at 0 °C

Tape, Cleaner, gloves and utility knife: preparation, cutting and sealing joints

Tape seals the joints between sheets to reduce thermal bridging, while Cleaner degreases the metalwork for good adhesion. The kit contains 4 rolls of Tape, providing 60 m of tape, and 1 bottle of Cleaner. A pair of gloves and a utility knife are included free for handling and cutting the insulation.

  • Tape: 15 m × 50 mm adhesive roll; 4 rolls in the kit
  • Cleaner: solvent-based Armaflex cleaning product, 1 L bottle, applied with a cloth; 1 bottle in the kit
  • Gloves: 1 pair, included free with the kit
  • Utility knife: 1 utility knife, included free with the kit

Compatibility: Fiat Ducato L3H2

The kit is sized for the load area of a Fiat Ducato L3H2 panel van (from 2006 onwards): 3,705 mm long, 1,870 mm wide and 1,932 mm high, with 1,422 mm between the wheel arches. These measurements are indicative: measure your vehicle before installation, especially if it has already been converted.

Please note: The bulkhead separating the cab is not included in the areas covered by the kit.

The closed cells of Armaflex ChezMoi already act as a vapour barrier, so there is no need for a separate vapour control layer.

The Ducato L3H2 shares its body with the Peugeot Boxer and Citroën Jumper: see the Peugeot Boxer L3H2 and Citroën Jumper L3H2 kits. Other Ducato sizes: L1H1, L1H2, L2H1, L2H2 and L3H3.

How do I install the Armaflex ChezMoi kit in a Fiat Ducato L3H2?

Armaflex ChezMoi is self-adhesive: it installs without glue, using a few simple tools, and requires no special skills. Just follow the steps in order. Our blog article on installing Armaflex explains each step in detail.

  1. Prepare the walls. Identify the areas to insulate. If you plan to fit wood panelling, install your fixing battens first.
  2. Clean the walls before installation. Dampen a clean cloth with Cleaner and wipe down all the metalwork: it must be clean and free of grease for the adhesive to stick. Cleaner contains a solvent and gives off fumes: wear a mask and work outside if possible.
  3. Mark out. Transfer the measurements for each area onto the non-adhesive side of the insulation, starting with the floor and pillars (10 mm), then the walls and ceiling (19 mm).
  4. Cut to size. Put on the gloves included free and cut the sheets to shape with the utility knife in the kit, or with an Armacell knife set if you prefer. The foam cuts cleanly.
  5. Stick in place. Peel back the protective film as you go, pressing the sheet onto the metalwork from the centre towards the edges to push out the air.
  6. Seal the joints. Apply Tape to every joint between two sheets to reduce thermal bridging.

Frequently asked questions about insulating a Fiat Ducato L3H2

How can I tell whether my Ducato is an L3H2?

The size combines the length (L1, L2, L3) and roof height (H1, H2, H3). Measure the usable load-floor length: approximately 2,670 mm for an L1, 3,120 mm for an L2 and 3,705 mm for an L3. Then measure the interior roof height: approximately 1,662 mm for an H1, 1,932 mm for an H2 and 2,172 mm for an H3. For an L3H2, allow for 3,705 mm by 1,932 mm.

Do I need DIY experience to install this kit?

No. The insulation is self-adhesive and can be cut with the utility knife included free in the kit: clean, cut, stick, then seal the joints with Tape. The six steps in the installation section cover the process, and the video shows you how.

Do I need to add glue?

No. The self-adhesive side of Armaflex ChezMoi sticks directly to the metalwork. Cleaner is used only to degrease it so that the adhesive bonds well.

Is this kit suitable for a Ducato-based motorhome?

It is designed for a panel-sided L3H2 Ducato van being converted into a campervan or motorhome. For an A-class or coachbuilt motorhome, the living area has different surface areas: measure them before choosing how much Armaflex you need.

Can I double the thickness for very cold conditions?

Yes, you can layer two sheets in exposed areas if you drive in very cold conditions. You will need to add rolls of Armaflex ChezMoi 19 mm to the kit.

Armaflex ChezMoi or Armaflex AF: what’s the difference?

Armaflex ChezMoi is the successor to Armaflex AF for vehicle conversions: the same self-adhesive foam, with a reaction-to-fire rating under the FMVSS automotive standard. Our article compares the two ranges point by point.

Is there a kit for a Boxer or Jumper of the same size?

Yes: the Peugeot Boxer and Citroën Jumper each have their own L3H2 product listings. See the Peugeot Boxer L3H2 kit and the Citroën Jumper L3H2 kit.
