Comfort in summer and winter in your Citroën Berlingo: 16 m² of Armaflex ChezMoi

Keep warmth in during winter and reduce heat build-up in summer in a converted Citroën Berlingo. That’s what Armaflex ChezMoi is for: it insulates the metal bodywork against cold and heat. This kit brings together the quantities calculated for the Berlingo: 1 roll of 10 mm insulation, 1 roll of 19 mm insulation, 1 roll of Tape and 1 Cleaner, with a pair of gloves and a utility knife included free.

Armaflex ChezMoi is an elastomeric foam made in Europe using Armacell technology. Its self-adhesive side sticks directly to cleaned metal bodywork, with no extra glue needed. The closed-cell structure also acts as a vapour barrier (μ> 7,000): there is no separate vapour control layer to install, and less condensation forms on the metal bodywork.

With a thermal conductivity of 0.035 W/(m·K) and an operating range of −50 °C to +85 °C, it insulates against both cold and heat, whether you turn your Berlingo into a mini campervan or keep it as a work van. The A+ rating (ISO 16000, VOC-free) and Microban® antimicrobial treatment built into the material matter in a space where you sleep. Its fire performance meets the FMVSS automotive standard, and the manufacturer guarantees the material for 10 years.

The kit is straightforward to use: 10 mm insulation for the floor and uprights, 19 mm insulation for the walls and ceiling, Tape to seal the joins and Cleaner to clean the metal bodywork before installation.

Armaflex ChezMoi 19 mm: insulate the walls and ceiling

The 19 mm insulation is the standard thickness for large areas. It provides the most insulation where space allows: the Berlingo’s side walls, doors and ceiling. The kit contains 1 roll, covering 6 m².

  • Thickness: 19 mm
  • Pack size: 6 m² roll (6 m × 1 m)
  • Thermal conductivity: λ = 0.035 W/(m·K) at 0 °C
  • Vapour barrier: built in, μ> 7,000
  • Operating temperature: −50 °C to +85 °C
  • Fire performance: FMVSS automotive standard
  • Air quality: A+ rating (ISO 16000), VOC-free
  • Antimicrobial treatment: Microban® built into the material
  • Warranty: 10 years (manufacturer)

Armaflex ChezMoi 10 mm: insulate the floor and uprights

The 10 mm insulation fits where space is tight: the floor, deep reinforcements, wheel arches and uprights. It preserves valuable headroom in a small van while insulating the metal bodywork. The kit contains 1 roll, covering 10 m².

  • Thickness: 10 mm
  • Pack size: 10 m² roll (10 m × 1 m)
  • Thermal conductivity: λ = 0.035 W/(m·K) at 0 °C
  • Vapour barrier: built in, μ> 7,000
  • Operating temperature: −50 °C to +85 °C
  • Fire performance: FMVSS automotive standard
  • Air quality: A+ rating (ISO 16000), VOC-free
  • Antimicrobial treatment: Microban® built into the material

Tape, Cleaner, gloves and utility knife: preparation, cutting and sealing joins

Tape seals the joins between the sheets to reduce thermal bridging, while Cleaner degreases the metal bodywork for good adhesion. The kit contains 1 roll of Tape, providing 15 m of tape, and 1 Cleaner. A pair of gloves and a utility knife are included free for handling and cutting the insulation.

  • Tape: 15 m × 50 mm adhesive roll, 1 included in the kit
  • Cleaner: solvent-based Armaflex cleaner, 1 L bottle, applied with a cloth, 1 included in the kit
  • Gloves: 1 pair, included free with the kit
  • Utility knife: 1, included free with the kit

Compatibility: Citroën Berlingo

The kit is sized for the load area of a Citroën Berlingo Van from 2018 onwards, in both M and XL sizes: approximately 1,817 mm long for the M and 2,167 mm for the XL, with a width of 1,527 mm, a height of 1,200 mm and 1,229 mm between the wheel arches. These measurements are a guide: measure your vehicle before installation, especially if it has already been converted.

Please note: The bulkhead separating the cab is not included in the kit’s coverage calculations.

The closed-cell structure of Armaflex ChezMoi already acts as a vapour barrier, so there is no need for a separate vapour control layer.

The Berlingo shares its bodywork with the Peugeot Partner: see the Peugeot Partner L1H1 kit (the same length as the Berlingo M) and the Peugeot Partner L2H1 kit (the same length as the Berlingo XL).

How do I install the Armaflex ChezMoi kit in a Citroën Berlingo?

Armaflex ChezMoi is self-adhesive: it can be installed without glue, using a few simple tools, and requires no specialist skills. Just follow the steps in order. Our blog article on installing Armaflex explains each step in detail.

  1. Prepare the walls. Identify the areas to insulate. If you plan to fit wood panelling, install the fixing battens first.
  2. Clean the walls before installation. Dampen a clean cloth with Cleaner and wipe down all the metal bodywork: it must be clean and free of grease for the adhesive to bond. Cleaner contains a solvent and gives off fumes: wear a mask and work outdoors if possible.
  3. Mark out. Transfer the measurements for each area onto the non-adhesive side of the insulation, starting with the floor and uprights (10 mm), then the walls and ceiling (19 mm).
  4. Cut to size. Put on the gloves included free and cut the sheets to shape with the utility knife in the kit, or with an Armacell knife set if you prefer. The foam cuts cleanly.
  5. Stick in place. Peel back the protective film as you go, pressing the sheet onto the metal bodywork from the centre outwards to remove trapped air.
  6. Seal the joins. Apply Tape to each join between two sheets to reduce thermal bridging.

Frequently asked questions about insulating a Citroën Berlingo

Is this kit suitable for both a Berlingo M and a Berlingo XL?

Yes. The Berlingo Van comes in two lengths, with a floor length of approximately 1,817 mm for the M and 2,167 mm for the XL, both with the same width. This kit covers both: the Peugeot Partner kits, for the same bodywork, contain exactly the same quantities for the L1H1 and L2H1.

Do I need DIY experience to install this kit?

No. The insulation is self-adhesive and can be cut with the utility knife included free in the kit: clean, cut, stick, then seal the joins with Tape. The six steps in the installation section are all you need, and the video shows you how.

Do I need to add glue?

No, the self-adhesive side of Armaflex ChezMoi sticks directly to the metal bodywork. Cleaner is used only to degrease it so the adhesive bonds properly.

Is this kit suitable for the passenger version of the Berlingo?

It is designed for a panel van Berlingo being converted into a campervan. The passenger version, which has windows and is already trimmed, does not have the same areas to insulate: measure the areas you need to cover before choosing how much Armaflex you need.

Can I double the thickness for very cold conditions?

Yes, you can apply two layers to exposed areas if you drive in very cold conditions. You will need to add extra rolls of Armaflex ChezMoi 19 mm to the kit.

Armaflex ChezMoi or Armaflex AF: what’s the difference?

Armaflex ChezMoi is the successor to Armaflex AF for vehicle conversions: the same self-adhesive foam, with fire performance that meets the FMVSS automotive standard. Our article compares the two ranges point by point.

Is there a kit for the Peugeot Partner?

Yes: the Peugeot Partner has its own product listings, with the same quantities. See the Peugeot Partner L1H1 kit and the Peugeot Partner L2H1 kit.

Complete the insulation and interior finish of your Citroën Berlingo

This kit insulates the metal bodywork in one go. To take things further with environmentally responsible materials, explore our campervan insulation kits.

For the floor, add a layer of 4 mm cork underlay on a roll beneath your floor covering: it reduces the cold-floor effect and cuts vibrations and road noise. Explore the full cork insulation range.

For the wall finish, start with a sample of stretch lining carpet: you can choose the colour (light grey, dark grey, anthracite, black or beige) in your van before ordering the van lining carpet.
