30mA earth leakage switch for 230V electrical circuits in panel vans

Essential in an electrical circuit connected to 230V domestic current, the 30mA differential switch detects current leaks caused by insulation faults to protect you effectively against the risks of electrocution and fire.

This differential switch immediately interrupts the power supply to the circuit in the event of accidental contact with an electrical conductor (the current), ensuring the safety of your electrical system and your protection within your living space in a converted vehicle.

It occupies 2 modules in an electrical box and is suitable for single-phase circuits.

How the 30mA earth leakage switch works

This type A differential switch is an important safety device that detects alternating currents and pulsating direct currents, making it particularly effective for protecting your electronic equipment and small electrical appliances in your converted van. It works by detecting current leaks between the active conductors (phase and neutral) and earth.

As soon as a current leakage of more than 30mA is detected, it immediately interrupts the power supply to the circuit concerned. This level of sensitivity is ideal for avoiding the risk of electrocution and preventing electrical fires.

Monitoring incoming and outgoing currents : The differential switch is connected to an electrical circuit and continuously measures the current flowing through the phase (which supplies the appliances) and the current flowing back through the neutral. Under normal conditions, these two currents are equal.

Current leakage : If a current leakage occurs, it means that part of the current has not returned through the neutral but has escaped elsewhere, often to earth. This situation can occur in the event of an insulation fault, faulty equipment or when a person accidentally comes into contact with a live conductor (risk of electrocution).

Detection of current difference (fault) : The differential switch compares the incoming current (phase) and the outgoing current (neutral). If the difference between the two exceeds a predefined threshold, typically 30 mA for personal protection (or 300 mA for fire protection), the differential switch detects a fault. This 30 mA threshold is designed to prevent serious accidents in the event of contact with electric current.

Circuit breaker : When a current leakage is detected, the differential switch immediately cuts the power supply to the circuit concerned, interrupting the flow of electricity and protecting people and equipment. It triggers almost instantaneously, preventing electrocution or fire.
