16A circuit breaker for 230V electrical circuit in a converted vehicle
Necessary for an electrical circuit connected to 230V domestic current, the 16A circuit breaker protects it from overloads or short circuits. It also protects your property.
In the event of a power surge, this circuit breaker automatically cuts off the power supply to prevent damage to electrical equipment and the risk of fire. This 16A Phase+Neutral model is ideal for a 230V socket in your living space in a converted van.
How the 16A circuit breaker works
A circuit breaker works by monitoring the amount of current flowing in a circuit. If this amount exceeds a safe threshold (usually caused by an overload or short-circuit), it automatically cuts off the power supply to prevent damage to connected appliances or a fire.
Current monitoring: it is connected to an electrical circuit and constantly monitors the current flowing through it. Each circuit breaker is rated for a specific level of current, such as 16A, 20A or 32A, depending on the needs of the circuit.
Overload: when a circuit draws more current than its rated capacity (for example, if too many appliances are connected to the same circuit), this causes an overload. The circuit breaker detects this overload and heats up an internal element, which triggers a disconnection mechanism to interrupt the supply.
Short-circuit: if a fault occurs in the circuit (such as a short-circuit between phase and neutral), the current quickly rises to an extremely high level. The circuit-breaker reacts almost instantly by interrupting the flow of electricity to prevent damage to equipment and minimise the risk of fire.
Tripping and resetting: when an overload or short-circuit is detected, the circuit-breaker trips, cutting off power to the circuit. Once the problem has been solved, it can be reset manually by lifting the lever, restoring the power supply.
The circuit breaker is therefore an essential safety device for protecting the 230V circuits in your van electrical installation against excess current, insulation faults and the risk of fire or malfunction.
What are the advantages of the 16A circuit breaker?
Compact: With its 1-module format, it fits neatly into your electrical box.
Reliable protection: Its Phase+Neutral design allows simultaneous breaking of the 2 conductors, providing a high level of safety. It has a breaking capacity of 3kA.
Installation compliant with the strictest quality standards.
