How the 16A circuit breaker works

A circuit breaker works by monitoring the amount of current flowing through a circuit. If this amount exceeds a safe threshold (usually caused by an overload or short circuit), it automatically cuts the electrical supply to prevent damage to connected appliances or a fire.

Current monitoring: it is connected to an electrical circuit and continuously monitors the current flowing through it. Each circuit breaker is calibrated for a specific level of current, such as 16A, 20A or 32A, depending on the circuit's requirements.

The circuit breaker reacts almost instantly by interrupting the electrical flow to prevent any damage to equipment and minimise the risk of fire.

Tripping and resetting: when an overload or short circuit is detected, the circuit breaker trips, cutting off the electrical supply to the circuit. Once the problem is resolved, it can be reset manually by raising the lever, thus restoring the electrical supply.
