How to apply sprayed cork in a van?

The application of a high-end professional sprayed cork perfectly suited for individuals. Sprayed cork is a thin-layer insulation solution that offers high-end thermal insulation for vans.

First of all, prepare with Heode all the necessary equipment for applying the sprayed cork. And familiarise yourself with the complete application process.

Equipment for protection and preparation:

• Protective plastic film
• Painter's tape
• Clean cloths or professional paper towels
• Armaflex Cleaner 1L (sheet metal cleaner)
• Bucket or clear water reservoir with graduated scale
• Overalls, gloves, goggles, shoe covers (optional but recommended)

Equipment for mixing:

• Large mixing bucket
• Shovel or scoop for transfer
• Professional mixer or mixing attachment for drill

Equipment for spraying:

• Compressor 90L minimum (ideally 100L), 3 HP, flow rate ≥ 250L/min

At what temperature should sprayed cork be applied in a van?

Spraying cork onto the sheet metal parts of your utility vehicle cannot be done at any temperature. This is why it is essential to have all the necessary equipment for its application. And it is recommended to follow a strict implementation process in order to successfully complete your sprayed insulation with biological cork coating.

To apply your thermal insulating cork coating, the Heode team recommends placing your vehicle in a sheltered space. This will allow you to leave the doors open for optimal drying!

If you are obliged to spray your cork coating outdoors, prefer dry weather with a perceived temperature of more than 15° up to a maximum of 35°.

What are the steps to apply sprayed cork?

Vehicle preparation

1. Remove plastic trim to expose all interior sheet metal
2. Carefully protect areas not to be covered (painter's tape, plastic film)
3. Thoroughly clean the sheet metal with Armaflex cleaner

Mixture preparation

1. Pour 6 L of clear water into a clean bucket
2. Gradually add 6 kg of Soliege cork whilst mixing
3. Mix until you obtain a smooth and flexible paste

Application

1. Spray the cork with a suitable gun connected to a compressor (4 bars min.)
2. Apply the material in thin coats
3. Clean all equipment immediately after each coat

Drying & subsequent coats

1. Leave to dry for 24 to 48 hours in a sheltered space with doors open
2. Repeat the operation for a second or third coat

Finishing (optional)

1. Pigment to be added only in the final coat
2. Sanding possible after complete drying for a smooth or exposed finish

Can sprayed cork be coloured?

Yes, you can customise the final appearance of the sprayed cork by adding a pigment to the mixture (cork + water). Heode offers natural pigments (white, anthracite) in pots or sachets. It is recommended to add the pigment only in the final coat. Use only one pigment at a time for a homogeneous finish. The lighter a pigment, the greater the amount to be added.

Is sprayed cork certified?

Can I combine sprayed cork with other insulation materials?

How long does it take to apply sprayed cork in a van?

The application of sprayed cork can be completed in half a day if the equipment is ready. You then need to allow between 24 and 48 hours of drying time per coat. For insulation in 2 to 3 coats, allow between 2 and 4 days depending on weather conditions.

Is sprayed cork suitable for all surfaces in a van?
